New Member request

Post by Keith56 »

Hi, my name's Keith Wilkins and I joined the register a couple of months back.

Whilst I'm totally in awe of the stamina, patience and skills of those of you who have built or are building your own cars (I've been avidly reading Stuart Clarke's and 'Cotton Mouth's' threads) I couldn't wait that long, so I bought Bill Telford's car.....

My first question to the community is: where can I get an insurance valuation for it? Whilst in the past I've simply told the insurance company what I want to insure my classics for and they've upped the premium accordingly. Footman James want a condition report / valuation completed by a car club official, restorer, valuer, specialist dealer etc. Is there anyone amongst you who knows Bill's car well enough to do it?

Looking forward to meeting some of you at the NEC.

Keith

Hi Keith,
Welcome to the club!
It's the first time I've heard of an insurance company requesting an external valuation report. Not to say that they can't or shouldn't. Plenty of people who know Bills car will be at the NEC so I'm sure it can be discussed there unless you need something sooner?? Gerry H will also be there and I'm sure he's done something similar previously. Either way, I'm sure we can help.

Hi Keith, welcome to the Club.

I know your 289 pretty well having assisted Bill on several occasions fitting his roll bar and gearbox along with some other minor things and I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as he did.

Regarding your insurance query, I would suggest trying Heritage Insurance, as I have experienced problems with Footman James in the past. Heritage seem to be more friendly and all I have had to do is provide six current photographs, every couple of years, to get an agreed value insurance. They can be contacted here. https://www.heritagecarinsurance.co.uk/ (I have no connection with Heritage other than being a very happy customer for over twelve years)
Cheers, Clive.

(If I'm not here I'm in my workshop or on the golf course!)

Hi Keith, welcome.
I can back up Clive’s comment as a happy customer. Heritage encouraged me to up date my agreed value to meet current trends and the premium wasn’t raised!
Take 6 decent photos to include all four quarters of the body, engine bay plus interior and they will be happy to help.
Remember that the replacement value will be higher than the purchase price.

Thanks guys, the Heritage quote I got was also quite good and the service friendly, but I'd lost the will to live by the time I'd answered all the same questions for the nth time and the pointer stopped spinning on FJ. Six photos and 'think of a number' is all I've ever had to do in the past, I didn't realise I needed a formal check sheet until it was too late. Next time.....

I've already been having fun with the 289, apart from the 400 odd mile trip down to Essex from Glasgow I also enjoyed a fabulous sunny day out to a breakfast meet near Sevenoaks in convoy with a RAM Cobra and a couple of those funny German cars with the engine at the wrong end.

See you at the NEC
