Tyres for FIA

Post by peterc »

Hi Guys
I am about to invest ? £1245 in some rather expensive Avon CR6ZZ's for my FIA.
Never been able to get 255's so aiming for 245/60/15 for the 8.5" rears and 215/60/15 for the 6.5" fronts
Each tyre shop quotes the same price as these are a little special created by Avon Motorsport
Has anyone discovered any other options?

Hi Peter,

i use those & found them to be excellent tyres you wont be disappointed.

These are the cheapest dealers I could find when looking around

I concur, BMT in Birmingham are by far the cheapest place for the Avon tyres. I paid £1,200 for 2 x 295 and 2 x 245 fitted and balanced, so your tyres should be somewhat cheaper.

BMTR have just quoted and yes very competitive even allowing for some fuel to get there.
So its looks like I need to arrange a day out to Birmingham

I buy Avon slicks at BMTR, the service is pretty good there. £1100 for 4 for the Radical.

Tyres now fitted by Avon's own Motorsport dept at Melksham as they are a lot closer to Surrey than going to Birmingham.
Same price as BMTR which was some £200 cheaper than other Avon outlets
Interesting they thought pressures should be close to 30psi whereas I've been using 22. Will try a run at 26 /28 to see the affect.
An old forum comments on tyre pressures quotes 24/26 but this is for you guys on 205/70 and not 245/60 rears
Will be interesting
