Hi All, I have used Gerry's original mechanical linkage and throttle pedal for my build. I have done all of 600 miles but I believe (I still to remove it from the car) that I have worn the grub screw that fixes the pedal arm to the mounting bracket. I am sure somewhere on the forum or in a newsletter I read a method for improving this weakness in the design but I can't for the life of me find it. Maybe I imagined it!
So has anyone modified theirs at all by replacing the grub screw or other improvement to the design?
Thanks in advance..Cheers John
PS Can't get mine out just now as the car is away being painted.

Hi John,
Is it where the lever mounts on the spindle?

Re: Original Throttle pedal linkage
Drill a small indent into the shaft itself. Tighten up the grubscrew with a splodge of liquid Ptfe so it stops it vibrating out, fixed.

Re: Original Throttle pedal linkage
As Stewbie says you ought to dimple the shaft.
It’s best if you cone the end of the grub screw to match the dimple to get a good firm bite.
In any bolting situation like that not involving a nyloc or aero tight nut I use locktite thread lock. It comes in a little red bottle and is available from good auto centres. Don’t use the stronger stud loc which needs tools to grip the stud and remove later which you wouldn’t have with a flush fitting grub screw.
I think you are correct that there is an article not too long ago but can’t remember if if was forum or the mag.

Re: Original Throttle pedal linkage
I never got round to fitting mine but looking at it I would think you need to ensure there is either a stop to prevent the pedal travelling too far or the various linkages allow the pedal to travel it's full length.
Cheers, Clive.

Re: Original Throttle pedal linkage
Thanks Guys, once I get it out of the car and see what damage is done I will know better. I remember Clive you didn't fit yours. My linkage system has no stop other than running out of travel on the carb. I will look into that too. Cheers John

Re: Original Throttle pedal linkage
If it runs out of travel at the carb, then there will still be travel at the pedal so any effort there will put strain on the spindle at the pedal end. It's amazing how much force is in your foot! A simple bolt through the floor behind the pedal with a nut on either side of the fibreglass will make an adjustable pedal stop.
Cheers, Clive.

Good point Clive. I will look into that.....I have been known to have a heavy foot!! Especially in the Cobra!

Re: Original Throttle pedal linkage
Clive, do you still have the Hawk throttle pedal you never fitted available to sell?
