Total electrical power loss

Post by JakeAustin »

Evening all,

The cobra decided to die on me during a blast through the peaks today.

There is no power to any of the car, fuel pump, fuses, starter motor, lights. Everything bar the battery is powerless. tested the battery and that is fine. Checking through all the wires and there is no visible wire damage. Checking earthing points along the chassis.

We are STUMPED!

Any help would be much appreciated. if anyone has had similar issues or any suggestions.

many thanks

It seems strange to have a total electrical failure. Some in the past have had issues with the immobiliser, but that should only affect things like the starter, fuel pump etc. I would start by testing the continuity between the chassis and negative battery terminal then the wire from the alternator. Sounds like a process of elimination I'm afraid!
Cheers, Clive.

Thanks Clive

Agree strange for everything to shut down. No immobiliser on the car either.

Its back in the garage now until the evenings this week. I will keep the feed posted on the progress and hopeful resolution.

Jake,
On my Hawk the mains +ve lead from the battery goes to the starter motor solenoid first. Power is then taken from there into the cars electrical system.
Therefore suggest you check to see if that connection has come loose and as Clive suggests check the cables from the alternator. Sometimes there is no clip to hold the alternator connection in place and I have had that vibrate out.
Best of luck.
