MGB axle noise

Post by simonjrwinter »

Right, if you’ve seen my other diff post you’ll see I have a problem with the oil seal. I’m reserving judgment on the condition of the “reconditioned” Diff I have until I get it looked at but I do seem to have what I can only describe as a “transfer of noise” from the axle to the body ( best description I can come up with, sorry)
It’s possible the panhard rod is catching on the Diff cover a tad which may cause it but would the axle retaining strap rubbing on the panhard rod also cause it? It’s cettainly not the propshaft rubbing (which is what I thought it was at first)
Of course it could be that my 400 mile old diff is buggered.....

Hi Simon,
It is standard practice to put a "set" in the panhard rod as it does catch the diff cover. It's straight forward to do with a decent 25mm pipe bender as I think its only made from cds tube. If I remember I'll send you a picture tonight.

Thought it might be but didn't want to say. You'll be giving Heathrow transmissions a call then or looking in the for sale section of the forum ;)
