Hi All,
I have a Mk1 BRA which has a couple of localised areas of surface corrosion on the chassis.
I want to clean the chassis and paint it to protect it from corrosion. My car isn’t a garage queen and I like to use it as much as possible, including during dry winter days.
What paint or rust protection do you guys use and recommend I use for localised making good of the chassis paint. Should I spray something like U-POL Gravitex or Raptor under the car, or just hand paint the chassis in some sort of brush paint once the surface corrosion has been removed?
Thanks in advance.
Kevin

Re: Chassis Corrosion Protection - What do you use?
POR15 is a popular choice.

Just fit a Ford 302 and the leaks will soon cover the chassis with oil and your rust issues will disappear!
Cheers, Clive.

- I think its endemic in the breed.
My FE has now relieved itself on my garage floor.

Re: Chassis Corrosion Protection - What do you use?
I would clean it right back to bare metal, tread with convertor / inhibitor (the frost one works well), a coat of Davids zinc rich primer, followed by two coats of POR 15. Then when its dry give it all a coat of Dinitrol. Extra belt and braces is to give it all a good coating of WD40 (or the cheaper alternatives) twice every winter. That keeps the dinitrol nice and soft and drives out trapped moisture. Thats what i do on my series 2A which is used all year round on our farm on the North East coast. I wash it regularly underneath and check it over, keeping on top of things being the best course of action.
Oh, and the oil leaks also help.

Thanks for all the responses. Most appreciated.
I have now ordered some POR 15, primer and rust converter from Frosts.
After my engine rebuild I am pleased to say I don't have any oil leaks, at present I'm sure that will change with time though!

After all that painting and Dinitrol etc. cover the chassis tubes that they will be protect to get permanent water, salt etc. The chassis at the rear fender will be hit by water as the chassis tubes in the front fender.

Thanks Migge - I do like the look of your wheel arch extensions. Would love to see some more photos of your car and how you built-up the arches if possible?
Did you start with a standard slab side BRA body?

Yes, a very old slabside BRA body. Only both main chassis tubes were left original and the body were modified too.
