Shelby's 'show chassis' is up for auction

Post by amulheirn »

About 6 hours left to bid on this one - current bid is $270K:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1964- ... -lpA6IU03Q

Body was made in the 1990s by Kimmins Custom Fabrication:

Apparently it used to be this:

From MY point of view a nice replica
Not more

And the seller did buy the car at the end...

Not from my point of view, but I could be wrong.
If you've a close look on the chassis pictures. Was this chassis ever converted from RHD to LHD?

the chassis had a life as a HotRod since the late sixties, since then it was LHD

Yes, I did read the story.
But the chassis is too nice and clean from my point of view.
I would expect to see some leftovers from the RHD setup (pedalbox mounting points,..)

I suspect that had the complete car started life in Thames Ditton then it may well have reached its target price but regardless of the controversy over the auction it’s not worth big money.
Very nice but not an original.
It is clearly a copy as another body building company created the shell.
Provenance is everything when expecting high values.

Is £395k low for this? It has no racing history.
There was also replica 289 (I think) chassis on ebay last week. Looked like an interesting project for someone - seems to have gone now.

I went to see it last night. Looks pretty good and still available. No idea of how good a copy it it but apparently there were 2 built alongside each other and the other one is driving around and road legal.
