Compact jack for boot of the car

Post by MartBlak »

I have a good jack for garage use but want to have one for my boot when travelling. It has to be compact (of course) and low profile so I can use it by the side of the road if necessary.
I have seen the following Streetwize 1.5 Tonne Trolley Jack at Eurocarparts

Has anyone used this or do you have any other recommendations please.
Thanks
Martin

I carry a bog standard scissor jack and a piece of 2" x 2" timber to use as a spacer between the jack and outer chassis rail.

I think that is rather large to be carrying in the boot of the Cob.
Like Clive I carry a standard scissor Jack. I carry that in a holdall with the tools in the passenger footwell which then provides a suitable foot rest for the passenger.

I have a Porsche 944 scissor jack, it's Aluminium. They sell them on evil bay, not cheap, but light.

I have always been concerned about balancing the car on a scissor lift even with a piece of wood to spread the load. Maybe I am over-thinking it but the thought of putting the car on a scissor lift when it is raining/a bit slippery worries the bejabers out of me!

The jack is for emergency use only and should only lift one wheel at a time. When lifted for changing a wheel, the removed wheel should be placed under the car beside the jack in case the jack slips. (As in my photo)

Additional vote for a scissor Jack here.
Get the spare out first, Loosen the spinner before you jack up and there's pretty much bugger all risk of anything slipping. Worst case get a couple of Tico pads or something similar.

I’m with Clive and Stu. Standard scissor Jack. Site nicely within the spare wheel in the boot.

Thanks all......I am now persuaded to go with a scissor jack. Unless I get a boot rack I do not think I realistically have space for a spare (or to put any replaced tyre).
That means I need to have a plan B with some form of tyre repair/inflator cans........and decent recovery insurance! Any experience/recommendations for this type of minor puncture repair that might get me home?

What type of Cobra do you have that doesn’t have a spare wheel.
There are numerous aerosol cans to re inflate a tyre but I can’t vouch for any brand having never been forced to use them.
I’m afraid that even the AA will keep you waiting on any busy week end. Be prepared for at least 6 hr wait.
