Jacks

Post by allan horsfall »

Gentlemen,

Just out of interest, I was wondering what type of 'Jack' most of you carry in your cobra's boot, or do you prefer an airosol to save space.

Hi Allan,

No jack or spare for me. Although I do carry 2 cans of Holts Tyreweld on longer journeys.

Jacks are not only for punctures! I carry a scissor type from Halfords http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/ ... ck-1-5-ton It has helped me out on a couple of occasions.

Scissor jack here as they fit under the car when the tyre is flat.

Also scissor type, especially after being thick enough to carry a small bottle jack that wouldn't fit when the one and only puncture I had left me stranded. A couple of bricks kicked under a length of fence rail found at the side of the road and used as a lever gave me just enough clearance to get bottle Jack under. Interesting doing it alone and not to be recommended.

I used to carry a scissor jack but when a driveshaft retaining nut came loose in Italy I discovered it would not lift the car and started to bend. I now carry the correct jack designed to fit under a Cobra chassis, a Shelley screw-thread bottle jack which has a curved saddle to fit around the chassis tubes.

I am in the scissor jack club. Have carried it around for nearly 30 years and used it for 4 punctures, to replace the old exhaust system which got pulled off twice (a long time ago) on the channel tunnel train and to lend to a few people as recently as September last year.

There`s a handy-looking scissor jack on eBAY, it`s a bit scruffy, but does come with a bag and a lead hammer for your spinners.
Bargain....
