You'd have to claw that wheel out of his (and then my!)cold, dead hands I'm afraid!
Don't want to take the thread too far off-topic, so here are a couple that show the steering wheel!

Why did he choose to fit it upside down Nik?

Re: Original steering wheel
Clear view of the Rev counter, which was already mounted as high in the dash as possible (you can just make out the 'half-moon' left in the dash where it was originally mounted).

Re: Original steering wheel
Thanks Nik. I would have assumed that the vertical spoke would obscure the rev counter on more occasions than it it were in the conventional positioned, but I'm not sitting in the driving seat and I'm not your Dad.

Thank you so much for putting these up, that's so cool ! look at the gear knob !! Looks like a chess piece, amazing ! the fire extinguisher looks hefty too !
Love the wheel like that, probably couldn't see oil pressure or temp at a glance, thats all you need when racing a v8 !!
The previous owner hasn't thrown you & your dad the keys since has he ?

P.S Sorry to follow on, (but I've had this car on my wall for years) When your dad owned it, was it a big deal to you guys ? THE ex Le Mans Cobra, or was it just a car with some nice history..?

Re: Original steering wheel
I'd love to find & fit that gear-lever to my FiA, it's probably in the garage somewhere!
I was too young to know anything about the Cobra when Dad was racing, but it was the Jack Sears/Willment history that mattered to Dad. He saw Jack race at Goodwood in 64, and decided he wanted that Cobra, not A Cobra, THAT Cobra!
A previous owner did throw me the keys once... My 21st birthday! Getting on for 30 years ago, but I can still remember it like it was yesterday! I only got to drive around the farmyard, but Nigel took Mum & me for some mega blasts around the West Sussex countryside. (Note smaller steering wheel, just to keep a bit on topic!)

Re: Original steering wheel
Superb photos - thanks Nik!
At the risk of hijacking this thread for another purpose, can anyone tell me the difference (apart from the obvious) between Moto-Lita's 'OEM Cobra' steering wheel and their split centre one?
OEM:
https://www.moto-lita.co.uk/steering-wh ... odrim-oem/
Split:
https://www.moto-lita.co.uk/steering-wh ... it-centre/
My questions are:
1. Will anyone notice the difference if an AC emblem is in the middle of the wheel?
2. I have one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-65-COBRA-A ... 2207664614 How does it attach? Do the little spring clips hold it in place in the middle hole?
Any help appreciated!
Cheers,
Andy
