old or new
Re: old or new
In my view it depends on the rest of the car and the surrounding items. No point in having highly polished parts with an obviously old part screwed on. If everything around it is shiny then this nut should match even if the metal is old, so it should be polished to suit. If the rest of the car is obviously old and un restored with plenty of patina then the unpolished nut would be correct and a polished one wrong and out of place.

I get what your saying.... I will try and clean the old one up some more with out removing the Original coating too much but I will most likely go with the repro for now as it seems too hold down the filter and lock in to the location holes much better..
The Originals so i have been told were not highly polished and were cadmium or zinc plated, The finish would have been similar too the Autolite carb.

Re: old or new
The leafspring cars had auto chokes... what's the part number on that Autolite, Mark?
The repro wing nuts are BZP, which is as close as you'll get to cad these days and very difficult to tell apart.

Re: old or new
Early cars had Auto but the newer 65+ had manual, No?
The Repro wing nut i have is slightly different to the Original.. either poor Repro or non Original Old one... Original is round VS Repro is more Oval. the wings on the Repro has pressing marks VS Original doesn't.. The Indent's are slightly different as well...
