servo assisted brakes or not?

Post by Tim Curtis »

For my BRA 289 which has still got to go through a IVA .

My garage has fitted three cylinders , one for the clutch and two for the brakes.

Is this correct or should the brakes be servo assisted and then split?

Most 289s aren't servo assisted. For IVA you require a dual braking system therefore the need for two master cylinders.

You also need the facility of testing that they have fluid. This is normally done by applying the handbrake which completes a circuit via floats in the two reservoirs.

Applying the handbrake only shows that the warning light is working. If the fluid level drops the light will come on whether the handbrake is on or not.

Agree with Clive, the handbrake switch is in parallel to the float switches. Otherwise they would have to make as well as the handbrake switch to allow the warning light to illuminate.

I stand corrected. I confess I hadn’t followed the circuit through.
