Cibies

Post by simonjrwinter »

Has anybody put cibies on the front of their 289?
I must say I quite like the look....

There are a few that I know of. Not all are Cibies though...

Yet again it comes down to practicality versus originality.
Originally they would have been Lucas 5.25” units. One spot and one fog pattern.
However for better light output the Cibie units would be a definite improvement.
It’s personal preference on beam pattern. Long range spots, mid distance general spread driving lights or near distance wide beam fog. Personally having previously used spots light I prefer driving lights to give good all round performance.
Cibie used to offer a unit that was a bit slimmer front to back than the traditional rally Oscar. Oscar plus I think at around 170 dia.
Don’t forget to check your alternator output.

Probably a bit expensive, but an ideal compromise. https://www.holden.co.uk/p/light_unit_o ... in_dip_rhd

Hi Clive,
I replaced my headlamps with Cibbies a while back simply for safety at night (especially the late night runs back at LMC 👍) and I have to say they are a vast improvement. Clear horizontal demarcation of illuminated area rather than the fuzzy cloud I had previously. Would recommend.
I have considered an additional pair up front but never concluded how/where I would put them.
Dave.

I swapped my tripod headlights for Cibes many years ago for exactly the same reason. I don't think you would need additional driving lights for road use though.

I agree. They are that good. I was thinking for cosmetic reasons and for that ‘floodlight’ wash effect on main beam when piling down the lanes at night :)

The driving lamps do look good, especially on a FIA.
