IVA tests

Post by kenv »

Evening all, is anyone else waiting for an appointment for the test? I realise Covid has messed up more than just this, I put the papers in, in April and was later informed that as I had applied before 4th July I was able to apply for an emergency test, which I did on the 6th July, but have heard nothing since. Anyone actually had an appointment since the tests have restarted?
Cheers Ken

I had my test last Monday. It was originally booked for April. Amateur built cars get assigned a priority 6. It all depends what the backlog is at each of the centres. I got my second choice which I took.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately I only applied in April and didn't have a date booked, so I guess more patience needed this end!

I'm just about to get my application in, don't think it'll happen soon.
Also been told told that the Test Centres are still closed in Wales but I need to confirm that.

Stew, how did it go?

Passed thanks Kev, I had plenty of time to go back to check and improve things during the summer. I was at Oldham and the guys there were very complimentary. At the same time they were very meticulous. Not like the usual test they send you away for a couple of hours whilst they go through things in private. You go through the usual lights test, steering and emissions checks with you in attendance but the rest of the checks they do without you there. Like waiting for a baby to be born back in the day. If I still smoked I would have surely done a whole pack of Marlboro full fats!
The latest things they like to see are a drain hole in the spare wheel well at the lowest point to prevent fuel collecting. Tank vent line valve, collapsible boss / element as well as the offset intermediate steering column. Check you seatbelt loop heights too, I made some extensions to raise the loops up. Pics of the IVA seatbelt frame are useful to explain the set up and of course certificates for immobiliser installation, engine age and suitability of fuel line hoses. I also made covers for under the dash that went down well. Everything radiused and fixed correctly. I always try to make it as easy as possible for the testers as
I couldn't do the job they do!

Stew, remind me which type of fuel tank vent valve you used. I know we have debated this way back but I can’t remember.
Is pressure needed to allow air to pass each way or the inversion type.e.g blocked off when wrong way up.

Well done Stew and congrats.
Peter I also used one of those valves TPV8 I think.
I allows air to be sucked in and out I believe but as you say fitted correctly it will stop the fuel flow should the car be upside down.
