Lancia Stratos modernised copy

Post by peterc »

I have not particularly had any love for Ferrari’s as I feel they are like the prancing horse on the bonnet - a bit highly strung.
I do however appreciate the engineering that goes into getting an engine to rev that well.
So why oh why would you chose to cut up a perfectly useable F430 or the F430 Scuderia version to make a Stratus copy?
Yes, a company by the name of MAT will relieve you of £500,000 plus the cost of a suitable donor car to cut out 201 mm from the wheelbase of said Ferrari. They then re body it as a modernised version of a Lancia Stratos but this time around having the F430’s 4.3 V8 with circa 532 BHP compared to the original cars 2.4 V6 with 190 BHP.
Surely this is designed just to relieve extremely wealthy people of a lot of money to buy something they don’t really need.
Apparently the fit and finish of the new internal trim is not in keeping with such a high price either.
A far cry from our humble replicas.

Yep, 100% correct......but then again......none of us actually NEED a Cobra replica, but we all WANT one.....maybe the only differences are the size of our relative bank accounts 😳

We'll see if they are still around a couple of years down the line.
I would never spend that much money on what is a replica, If I did have £500k to burn I'd have a garage full of toys rather than just one. But there are people out there that will see that and think it is the car of their dreams and have 1/2 Mil burning a hole in there pocket.
I spend loads of times at the exhibitions and it surprises me the amount of draw that Strats get. You tend to find that people are either Cobra people or Stratos people and very few like or have both. I've been out in one of Gerry's a few times and they are really fun cars but they are lower down the list of must have cars in my mind whether original, replica or modern take.
The moral of the story is just because it doesn't suit us, doesn't mean to say that it floats someone elses boat!? Some people prefer 427's...….. and that is fine!

Agreed,
I have often thought given the spare cash what cars would I have in the garage. I then realise that all of my dream cars I have never even sat in let alone driven. They remain just a day dream. I suspect a number of them might be less than special when they are driven.

Be interesting to see people’s dream garages, money no object.....maximum of 10 cars
Mine would be...
The Hawk I already have
The TR6 V8 I already have
A GT40, wouldn’t have to be a real one, a good quality replica would be fine
A De Tomaso Pantera (early one, no wings or arches)
A Rover P6 3.5 (my dad used to have one, always loved them)
Triumph Vitesse convertible
A Suzuki GT750K
BMW K1600 GT
Probably a few more as well, no Ferrari’s or Lamborghini’s.....(well, maybe a Miura just to look at)
A Tesla.....one of the quick ones 😈
Anybody else care to share theirs

Off the top of my head my choices would include a JCB 3CX and a Ford Transit.
Cheers, Clive.

Morning Clive,

Assume the top of your head is already covered by a hard hat?
