Scalextric/slot cars

Post by simonjrwinter »

I’ve just started to get into these as having four young Grandchildren, I thought it best to start them early (to make sure they aren’t waylaid by frivolous pursuits like Football)
I’ve decided to build an 8 x 4 board with as much track as I can fit on it. Anybody else on here got a layout?

Got my original set, complete, boxed, circa 1967 in the loft. Does that count ?

I was never really into Scalextric as I found it quite boring playing with it on my own, I was more into model railways. I did however acquire this a few years ago...

I built up a rather large circuit in our top floor main room just after we built the house (i.e. before it got any furniture in it....). It was large, too - a lap time of over 20sec, measured on the electronic lap counter!! Unfortunately the room was commandeered by my daughter a few years later and it's now all in boxes. It's not Scalextric - it's Ninco track, which is wider, has far better connectors and much more gradual curves, but takes up a lot more room as a result. The cars in my collection are mostly Fly, with some Scalextric and some Ninco. Fly used to make some fantastic cars, much faster and grippier than Scalextric, and I have loads of GT40s, 512s and T70s as well as some Healeys, saloons, a Cobra (Ninco) and various other odds and sods. Mostly bought from Mark and Julie Scale, of Scale Models (see what they did there?). Don't know if they're still in business...

One day, it'll all be laid it in the top room in the garage. 120sqm should be enough.

Clive, looks very nice and just happens to be the unique A98 Daytona. There was only one of those wasn’t there.

Correct Peter, A98, the AC Le Mans Coupe famously driven by Peter Bolton and Jack Sears at 180 mph on the M1.
