Snakes in the garage!

Post by amulheirn »

I put a new tongue and groove floor down with celotex underneath while the car was away for paint. Bit of a long job but already the place feels much more luxury.

Also had a bit of ivy getting in in one corner, so I pulled it down. As I yanked the last bit down, I realised the garage was housing not one, but two snakes. About six inches away from my hand, there was what I think is a grass snake just under the roof panel in the corner. After changing my trousers, I took the attached photos.

We got on fairly well over the next couple of days (that is to say, he went to sleep), but now he has disappeared which is something of a relief.

I had one in my garden at the last house, it was swimming in the pond and curled up on a rock for a snooze, luckily it slithered off after a day or so. It would have had to cross a main road to get to us so god only knows how that happened

Yeah, I thought they liked water and ate amphibians, so what he's doing up there I've no idea. No pond or water anywhere near!

I was fishing near Fishguard last week and one swam right through my swim about 5 feet long.
Grass Snakes are quite harmless unless you're a frog.
