Has anyone been watching the series on HMS Northumberland?
One of their tasks was to escort an American nuclear submarine into a Scottish base under the watchful eyes of a Russian spy ship. They were keen to prevent the Russians from collecting the noise signature of the Submarine so deliberately positioned themselves between the two and ran their engines noisily.
They have four multi cylinder diesels which I think are all for ancillary uses and the main drive is turbine.
One tends to think a noisy engine has something wrong so how do you deliberately run an engine to create more noise without damage.
