Just received my insurance renewal from Footman James. It’s gone up from £357 this year to £435!
That’s no mean hike!

Re: Insurance hike
Have you tried Hertage Classic Car Insurance? https://www.heritagecarinsurance.co.uk/
I have used them for eighteen years and found them to be excellent. Far better cover than Adrian Flux and Footman James both in the cover and mileage allowed. For example my cover for this year is just over a quarter of your renewal price and that is for an agreed value of £45k, 5,000 miles and European cover.
PS, Tell them I recommended you and I'll get £25!

Re: Insurance hike
I got a good quote from Abbeyfields who advertised in the magazine. The cost went down despite the actual insurance company being the same as last year with Heritage.

Re: Insurance hike
Apparently the year of original registration is significant!
So those with a car that has "historic" status benefit from not only no MoT or Road Tax costs but also very significantly reduced insurance costs
- like 50% !!
So Footman James tell me - mine's a 2011 car... grrrr !!

Re: Insurance hike
Because a vehicle has Historic Status and exempt from Vehicle Tax does not make it exempt from an MOT. This only applies if there have been no "Substantial Changes" to the vehicle within the last 30 years. https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles#:~ ... le%20works

Re: Insurance hike
Interesting Clive - I didn't realise that. So it looks as though changing an MGB rear axle for a Jaguar may well fall foul of the legislation if the car is currently exempt.

Re: Insurance hike
I can confirm that my Hawk whilst officially a re bodied 1967 MGB and classed as historic I have needed an MOT from year three after its SVA.
I can’t say I particularly agree with the no MOT rule anyway. Having a third party officially declare that the car is road worthy is important in my view especially if I was to be involved in an accident.
Ref the discount I had always been told that insurance companies look favourably on classic car owners who statistically have less claims than more modern car owners.

Re: Insurance hike
Tried abbeyfields but their quote was £635!
Not sure why it was so expensive, I’m 65, clean licence, no accidents or convictions, must just be my postcode I guess……(or maybe they’ve seen me drive…..)
