Unfortunately I didn't have insurance at the time of booking. However, we fully intend to go next year :D

I’m really missing the loss of LMC this year.

So to compensate I’m watching prior LMC plateau races on YouTube through the tv. Makes excellent viewing and you get the entire race for each plateau. Definitely recommend it if you need that fix.

Just tried, and they're not open for next June/July, can't book Portsmouth St Malo. We need to cross the week before as we have an entry for the Tour de Bretagne, which starts in St Malo the week before LMC - but only Portsmouth-Cherbourg seems to be open for booking.

Can I ask why that particular ferry? In the past, I have taken the ferry from Rosyth to Zeebrugge as it was the only ferry from Scotland, but unfortunately it is freight only now. I loved the drive from Belgium to LeMans across the north of France and if I decide to go to LM next year I would certainly consider an alternative route with more driving in France. The only downside is the 550 miles of UK roads to the south coast.
Cheers, Clive.

(If I'm not here I'm in my workshop or on the golf course!)

Last couple of time I’ve been to Angouleme, I’ve been with pals from the West Country. This has meant a drive down the 303 to Exeter, then down to Plymouth and an overnight ferry across to Roscoff. This is a lovely route, and leads to some fabulous roads further down into France through some lovely scenery. Certainly not the shortest route, but if you can build some travel time into your schedule it can be a lovely drive.
There’s one section of pretty much perfect road on that route. It’s about ten miles of fast winding roads through a forest. When had my Morgan Aero 8 we were following (at a safe distance) a local in a very quick Renault Clio and it was just glorious, no other traffic, fast, safe, just fabulous. The stuff driving dreams are made of. The only road I’ve ever wanted to turn round and do it all over again!

Hi Clive,

For us it’s a good run down the A34, overnight cabin and beer, and a lovely run to Le Mans on the other side, either direct or routing east to intercept fellow revellers crossing by tunnel.

Either way, I don’t have to route around the M25 which will add significantly to the journey time and pain.

On the return, it’s a straight run home from Portsmouth, again without the M25 on a Tuesday morning!

Dave.
