Halibrand Tool

Post by Jonny 427 »

What do most people use to get the halibrands off? a hammer or a tool? I like the idea of the tool from oldtimer but they are so expensive. We could design one ourselves and commission 20 to be manufactured.

Off with Hammer and a piece of wood, on with a tool.
A chap in the German Cobra Forum built a very nice one with copper inserts and the use of a torque wrench 400Nm

You could mail Norman wheelwidget@hotmail.co.uk
He makes tools for two eared spinners and three spoked spinners as far as I am aware.
He's retired and makes them in his spare time. I bought a two eared variant from him, made from aluminium and it works a treat.

Thanks guys.. have emailed Norman. I have something similar for my two eared spinners on my e-type and that works well.

I normally use a copper mallet. Heavy one to get them off and a lighter weight one to tighten up to avoid over tightening.
Having just taken up the slack on the spinner it’s important that the wheel is touching the ground when you tighten properly to avoid the full the force going into the wheel bearing with obvious repercussions. This is particularly important with the deep section rear Alloys where you are forced to hammer at an angle.

Norman @wheelwidgets's tool is really good, cost £40 in total a couple of years ago. It's not really worth trying to get them made for that sort of money
