Fuel cap leak

Post by simonjrwinter »

I’d noticed a smell of petrol in left hand bends with an accompanying streaking of petrol stains on my car around the filler cap.
I removed the filler cap and the inner tank filler to discover the rubber O ring was elongated

Not sure if I had fitted it incorrectly but there was no way it was going back in the groove!
Sliced it with a Stanley blade, a blob of superglue and bobs your uncle. As the O ring was glued in the first place I guess it’s fine to do it again.
Was introduced to supergluing seals together when fitting the rear window to my TR6 Surrey top.
Probably not wise to glue engine oil seals....😜
