Manifold and fuel inlet selection

Post by StuBaker »

I'm trying to put a spec together for a 302 engine for my Hawk 289, (no bonnet scoop.)
I too am looking at efi, and as well as the FiTech and Holley Sniper I see the Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 has great reviews.
What manifolds will fit with the FiTech and Sniper? Has anyone fitted the Pro Flo?
Before I place an order I'd like to be confident they'd fit. Any advice appreciated.
How much room is available above the block?

I’ve got a 302 with (from memory) an Edelbrock manifold with a Holley carb on top. I also have a dropped base air filter. This only just fits below my hood scoop.
The Fitech unit is the same height as the Holley carb. I think unless you have a very low profile manifold, you may struggle with height.....

Edelbrock Performer (not performer RPM) is the lowest Inlet manifold for a carb. Not many others will fit under a bonnet with no hood scoop.

Thanks Gents.
I see the numbers on the Real Steel website confirm the Performer is the lowest.
Is it really that close?
Does an oval filter help any?
What about the Weber/Edelbrock carbs?

Does the manifold need planing horizontal or a tapered adaptor fitting?

Pro Flo and Fi Tech/Sniper are not really comparable systems as Pro Flo is a MPI System and need a different Manifold where Sniper etc are TBIs with a more old school look.
MPIs are much more tunable and closer to a modern system.
If no scoop, you may have a chance with a Edelbrock "Fly Eye" Filter or with a low profile Spectre Air Intake.
