Blue glycol 50:50 with DI water.
NOT pink stuff!

I recently bought a 1928 Delage DR70 saloon to join my small group of "special" cars. I asked the chap I bought it from about anti freeze and he very emphatically said Blue Glycol in much the same style that Stu has. Can someone just explain to me why it is so important please?

My water cooled Porsche is filled with pink stuff which seems to be the norm for Porsche dealers and Porsche specialists to use.

I am just interested to learn a bit about the difference.

Interesting query.
I would have thought it was merely a different manufacturer rather than different composition but wait to be proved wrong by those more knowledgable.
Perhaps not surprising our VW Golf and Audi A3 both have pink antifreeze.

I can't remember the actual facts off hand, but the blue anti freeze is more suited to older engines as the newer pink stuff is detrimental to gaskets and seals.

I found this from way back... "I'm not aware of this anti freeze, but a word of warning to Cobra owners, Older engines such as the Ford engines some of us have should only use Blue anti freeze as opposed to the more modern Pink ones.
This is similar to the oil issues. Apparently there are corrosion inhibiters in the pink anti freeze that can damage the seals in older engines and should therefore be avoided."
Cheers, Clive.

(If I'm not here I'm in my workshop or on the golf course!)

i thought the only golden rule was you can't mix them as creates a kind of sludge from chemical reaction. I don't think the OAT modern (normally pink) stuff wasn't invented when early Rover engines were built but that towards end of its life even BL specified the more modern OAT (lasts longer 5 vs 2 years and is kinder to environment). i am also think that Morgan and TVR didn't say you can only use the old blue stuff? seems logical as RV8 was one of first aluminium blocks which are now commonplace and happy with the newer OAT pin stuff.

i did read somewhere that vintage older engine seals and head gaskets might not like the pink stuff but i doubt there are many engines still running on their original seals.

Happy to be corrected
