I'm not sure how many threads you need to be on the safe route.
Using the MGB steering rack I have just 5 threads (turns) and I reach my position for the right toe in position. Thought it seems okay but not that safe I think. Have in mind that the length should be 1.5 of the rods thickness ? Any other opinions?
Ordered Mustang II extended tie rods (need to be shorten, very large). They have the same 9/16-18 thread. BUT a little wider conus, so they do not fit the steering arm without using a reamer. The other way would be to use an rod extension.

Hi Migge, I would agree with you that 1.5 diameters is would be a good place to start.
A full nut is 0.56” which would equate to around 10 threads so I wouldn’t aim for much less than that. E.g 1 dia engagement.
I guess that means 10 to 15 threads is adequate.
I don’t think you would rely on the thickness of a lock nut to take the total strain which is what 5 threads equals .

Re: Tie rod ends
Gerry supplied longer ends than the MGB ones for me - maybe ask him? Might work better than the Mustang ones.

Re: Tie rod ends
I totally can't find a picture that I'm sure I took comparing the two! I will have to go in the garage and take one - will let you know.

Hi Migge,
The MG steering rack needs to be shortened when fitting the extended track rod ends when utilising Gerry's uprated front suspension.
