Jacking points

Post by lowebird »

Can any kind soul please advise me of the safe points for jacking up a Hawk 298? I would like to know where the strong points are for general trolley jack work in the garage and the small hydraulic jack points for tyre changing whilst out on the road. Thank You.

Personally (and I’m no expert) I would say under the main chassis rails using a Jack with a cupped pad of some sort (something I’ve been meaning to get made for my Jack)
Alternatively under the IRS mounting hardware at the rear or cross tube at the front

As Simon says, a trolley jack under the front cross member is best for raising the front as long as the jack has a long enough reach.

For emergency jacking, I use a standard scissor jack with a piece of 2"x2" timber on the edge of the outer chassis rail against the sill either to the front or rear depending which wheel I need to remove. I also use this method to lift the car in the workshop, but use axle stands once lifted.

Cheers, Clive.

Thank you chaps for your help. I have only had the car 3 days and I am learning all the time.

Oh, and not meaning to preach, but ALWAYS use axle stands (you would be amazed at the amount of “normal” people who work on their car whilst just on the Jack ….

I bought a low profile jack with a rubber puck for just over £100. Available from Halford or SGS - wished I'd bought it years ago - makes jacking up the cobra a total breeze compared to the crappy kit I've been using for the last decade. Can be slid directly main chassis rails, diff etc.

I have similar, used them as workshop jacks in race teams also, they last okay, just make sure you spanner check all the bolts, they come loose pretty quickly from new.
