Anyone ever experience problems with the rubber shifter boot pushing the gear lever too much?
I ended up temporarily taking it off and replacing with leather gaiter.

I've never had any problems in that department.
Cheers, Clive.

Re: shifter boot
Yes. I'm having to lift my gear lever up an inch or so to extend the rubber boot. As it is, it will occasionally push it into neutral on the over-run.
It isn't a huge issue, but it can be annoying, especially if you're pressing on a bit.

Re: shifter boot
Common problem - it's because the gear lever boot hole in your transmission tunnel isn't exactly centred on the gear stick, and the boot is exerting tension on the stick which can, in extreme cases (or with worn selector shafts), cause the car to 'fall' out of gear on the over-run.

Re: shifter boot
Not the case with mine Roger.
I'm pretty sure my problem is because the gear lever is too low and there isn't enough room before the bend to allow the rubber boot to extend far enough, which means the bellows are too flat and therefore, inflexible.
I how to have it fixed before the weekend.

Bend? In a 289 gearstick? Or do you have a 427?

Re: shifter boot
I wondered if that would confuse people.
Yes, I have a Kirkham 427 and a friend of mine Stuart has just joined the 289 Register and he also has a Kirkham 427. We're taking over, one car at a time.

Re: shifter boot
You don't have a problem with that do you?
I tried the "other" club, but I prefer the less juvenille membership of the 289 Register.
