On the recent Scottish Road Trip I received a number of comments from other drivers about how low my exhaust system hangs.
This was confirmed throughout the weekend by the number of times we bottomed out at speed (two up and a boot full of clobber).
The exhaust is standard Hawk detail and installed following the Hawk guide.
Can anybody with an MGB live axle send pics of their exhaust config as I am trying to understand if this is just the way the Hawk exhaust hangs, or if a custom exhaust can offer me better clearance.
I will add a couple of pics of my own when I can.
Thanks.
Dave.

Whilst you may all be infatuated with Bill's low hanging fruit, any chance of a technical response to the question ;0)

Hi Dave
If you give me a call I can talk you through the custom system I got made up.
I think I have some photos that I can post.
Trust Clive & Roger to lower the tone of the conversation

Re: Low hanging exhaust ...
Thanks Bill for restoring some normality to proceedings.
The Hawk system runs straight down the middle between the two main backbones so there is not much that can be done to raise it. I will do what I can but think I need to look at a custom system that runs down the outside like yours.
Thanks again.
Dave

Re: Low hanging exhaust ...
If you have a standard Hawk system and it's clobbering the road, something's wrong. Being a serial Big Healey owner I know all about exhausts and ground clearance, and the Hawk has masses of clearance if it's mounted correctly.
The only rider to this is that I know nothing of MGB-engined or axled cars. Are they really that different?

Hi Dave,
Are you sure it is your exhaust that is grounding? I remember that Allan T thought his was grounding when his car bottomed out in the same circumstances. His shocks were set quite soft, but his problem turned out to be his prop shaft. What was hapenning was when his rear suspension compressed the prop shaft touched the rear of the transmission tunnel where he had made the cut-out in the rear panel in front of the diff, but there wasn't sufficient clearance. He enlarged the cut out and the problem disappeared. Worth a look.
