Lack of Bilstein travel ...

Post by Dave Woodward »

Guys,

I finally upgrade my old lever arms at the rear for lovely yellow Bilstein shocks as supplied buy Gerry.

I am a little concerned that there seems to be VERY little travel available in the shocks and the ride height seems to have gone up by about an inch.

I attach a pic for reference.

Can anybody else running Bilsteins (Bill?) confirm if this looks like their setup also? Not much that can go wrong with the install so a little perplexed. Have been for a gently run and the ride is very nice but don't think I would enjoy hitting a lump in the road as will be running off the shocks own bump stop.

Dave.

Hi Dave

That is the way it is on mine too and I've had no issues.

How much travel do you have in the shock before it bottoms out?
I'd expect it to sit approx halfway. That looks very close to me.

That is what I would have thought too Roger. I would say that the shock would be the first thing to bottom out but these are as supplied by Gerry. A much smaller shock would seem more appropriate.

Now running GAZ shocks from Gerry. Apologies for mis info in earlier post but got the Bilsteins from MGOC. Supposed to be for an MGB so not sure why they don't fit.

Gerry's adjustable GAZ shocks fit and work a treat.

Happy now :)

You know, I still don't understand all this forties clothing, 'taches and lingo for a club that focuses on a sixties car!

Where are the winklepickers, the drainpipes, the Tootal matching Paisley-pattern shirts and ties?
Or can I feel another anorak attack coming on...
time for a lie-down...
