I think I must have benefitted from the newness of SVA testing as I didn’t do any particular checking or research into the finer points. I assumed that Gerry had designed the car correctly for passing the SVA e.g. seat belt supports etc.
Dashboard protrusions didn’t apply but I did know that I had to fit repeat side indicators and Gerry’s mirrors.
For peace of mind I took the car for a basic MOT locally before driving the 60 miles to the SVA.
In fairness mine is an interim SVA pass as the car was tested before the end of ‘99.
Judging by the comments on the forum things are not so easy these days.

Getting harder Peter. IVA seems much stricter than SVA and it doesn't look like it will get easier! Perhaps it might be one of the few benefits if we leave the EU! :P

I found this guide quite helpful when I was going through my own private hell with IVA:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... get-a-pass

- and yes, IVA is harder than SVA, which I happily passed a car through 10 years ago, I stupidly assumed IVA was just SVA with headrests. It ain't!

Good afternoon,
can you advise me of the design weights for IVA please.

You've previously given me the details for an MGB rear but I've decided to go with the Jaguar rear suspension (second time I've changed my mind - more delay!!). So, current set up is;

Hawk 289 FIA

Rover V8 engine

Automatic Gearbox (BW66) - got a dodgy arm so stuck with auto’s!!!

Jaguar rear axle.

That is a really good guide.

The plate I have has Hawk Cars ,the address, Chassis no. and Engine no. on it.
I'm guessing that's going to fail?
Anyone know if Gerry has a new version of the plate?
I will of course ask him.

I got a brass one made by a local engraver. Contains the following only - all within a rectangle - characters and rectangle outline in black, background brass. No problem at IVA.

Hawk Cars Ltd.
HAWKSTLS00 ETC. ETC.

Cheers

Gerry has new VIN plates now.
We were waiting for my car to go through the IVA with the newer Vin plate design as a test. Passed no issues and he had a ruck printed. Design weights are needed to calculate braking efficiency requirements. They check the weight of the vehicle to ensure that the overal weight with full tank and driver is not greater than the design weight.

Gerry sent me a picture of the "new plate"
I note it still has the address on it.
Must be variations in testers preference if KevinW failed on that.
I would hate it fail just on that.
The weights are stated on the IVA application but I don't think you have to put them on the plate too?
