Blacked out the details with felt tip. Seemed to satisfy the tester at Gillingham.

Yes. Even the tester thought it was a ridiculous rule!

Gerry has very kindly sent me a new plate.
Will hopefully get the VIN engraved on it today, but will leave the weights blank.
At IVA I will be armed with a black marker pen just in case I have to blank the address.

Hi Kev,
I'd already seen that thanks.
Gerry says he's passed IVA with one his new plates.
Maybe he was referring to Stu's car?

We were waiting for my car to go through the IVA with the newer Vin plate design as a test. Passed no issues and he had a ruck printed. Design weights are needed to calculate braking efficiency requirements. They check the weight of the vehicle to ensure that the overal weight with full tank and driver is not greater than the design weight.
Hi Stu,
did you include the front, rear and gross design weights on your plate?
Or did you leave them blank and just have the VIN no.?
Cheers.

Hi Kev,
I stamped the plate with the Vin and Gross weights and the tester was fine with it. I think the issue with the plates is that some used to contain shed loads of info on type of oil, wheel base dimensions, mothers maiden name and the like.
That is why they only want specific info in an easily legible place. The info on the plate can then provide the weights to perform the brake tests at MOT stations in the absence of data being on file or in the absence of a V5. The Vin number is also on there for obvious reasons. Some testers go to the extreme I know, I suppose they are entitled to do that. Every test I've been to has been fine and the testers have been very knowledgeable, firm and fair. I can't speak for others experiences.

Thanks Stu.
I think I'll get the weights engraved on then.
Hopefully before we in Wales go back into lockdown.
