Let the games begin ...

Post by Dave Woodward »

Finally taken delivery of my IRS. Thought it was time for another project 😜

I’ll be selling my current rear axle once removed along with all ancillary components if anybody knows of an interested party. In brief:

- MGC rear axle with 3.07 Quaife LSD diff (this has been a great ratio)
- Uprated half shafts to handle SBF power
- Disc brake conversion
- Anti tramp bars
- Panhard rod
- parabolic leaf springs (more comfortable than standard)
- Gaz shocks
- Spare set of standard springs

It’s proven to be a robust setup that’s served me very well.

PM if interested

Thanks Stu.

I will need to talk to you about the above. Any guidance re shocks and springs gratefully received. I have Gerry’s assembly kit already and Ed provided two handbrake cables. I need to sort a new prop shaft, shocks/springs, and a new exhaust. Think I’m going to have to drive to the exhaust centre with a sawn off affair which will raise a few eyebrows!

Dave.

Propshaft services in Feltham mated my original (t5-MGB) prop to a Jag end for £70 + vat all balanced and painted.

Just realised why yours looks different to what I remember. Out board discs of course!
What ratio did you go for and is it power lock or similar.

Hi Peter.

It is a powerlock diff. Ratio is 3.31. I asked for a 3.07 (or nearest Jag equivalent) as per my current ratio and that’s what I thought I had until I picked it up yesterday.

I’ve always been very happy with the 3.07. The extra legs it gives when accelerating away is a real advantage and the extra gearing doesn’t touch the pull of the SBF.

Dave, you can assemble the hubs on the opposite sides to how you have them in the photo, so the calipers are positioned at the rear of the wheel, like the original Girlings were.

Good to know Roger thanks. Ed did mention the work you two had done originally getting it all set up.
I’ll take a look at that.
Cheers.
