Now really Roger, I know plenty of people like to drive and even race convertible Morris Oxfords but can you imagine a former 289 owner in a convertible Hillman Husky. As to training my wife to do anything - ha ha ha fetch me a rib doctor quick!!! No chance.

Re: BRA 289
Hmm. 260 means Ford V8, which means a (ahem) barge, a Tiger, TVR, Bronco (surely not?) or... has my brain-fade finally kicked in properly? There was an Olds 260, but that was post-75 IIRC... hmm, puzzled. Unless, of course, it's a Robin bodge job. Sorry, bespoke-engineered conversion.Old Boy Racer wrote:Now really Roger, I know plenty of people like to drive and even race convertible Morris Oxfords but can you imagine a former 289 owner in a convertible Hillman Husky. Well the deal is finally done so time to come clean. If you read the article by following this link you'll see why it ticks so many boxes for me with my other interests. 260ci as promised and somewhere I have another article titled The Original Cobra. Once it's tucked up in the garage and I've taken some pics I'll post them.

A straight-eight, you sneaky swine!
Lovely. I mean, really lovely. Wish I had the guts to run something as rare as that.

Re: BRA 289
Thanks Roger. Figured that it was now or never. Cosmetically, I'd say mine is how my 289 was when I bought it compared to how it was when I sold it. Loads of tidying and changes to make but it had a gearbox rebuild last year and an engine rebuild the year before that - both by specialists. Having said that, it's done things like The Scottish Malts, Beaujolais runs and other tours so I guess I'll have no excuse. Blatted it around an airfield test track and I was done for - couldn't say no. Engine note still identifiably an 8 but a bit smoother.

Aha - must be EPB. Looks great and LOTS of fun. Brilliant!
Erm - if she wasn't keen on the 289 on comfort grounds, well...
...or I may be confusing her with Mrs L

We'd love to have an MGC along!
Re: BRA 289
Robin, this is brilliant news. Will it qualify under PVT status for VSCC events ? Roger, let me get the Sebring fettled first and then see how much I have left over to eat. If sufficient funds become available (am currently trying the "we've got lots of equity tied up in the house dear" approach) then nothing would please me better than joining you on a European jaunt, ....apart from doing it in a 289.

Hi Folks,
We have registered our interest in these trips, perhaps particularly Ireland. You never know!
Good picture of you and Morag in the mini Roger on the 2015 trip.
regards
David

Re: BRA 289
Peter - yes indeed, it already has a VSCC buff form that I will reapply for. Shelsley beckons - all your fault of course A few cosmetic changes before then for no other reason than I want to. It currently has full length wings, running boards and the spare wheel on the back. I'll replace with cycle wings, step plates to get in and move the spare to the side as per the factory original. Got to be painted dark green as well. They only built 2 at first but in subsequent years a handful of others have been built. Mine's one of those. Here's a recent article showing what I want it to look like. I'll keep you in touch with our plans once I've decided with Andrew what they are.
