Just for interest, an original 289 tank should hold 15.5 Imp Gallons.

With an Autolite 4100 and mostly stock (but bigger intake valves) I'm looking for petrol properly at 200 miles.

As I said, I don't carry a spare and I can get a decent sized suitcase plus a large hold-all in the boot with space for smaller items down the sides. We went to Italy for 2 weeks last year in the Cobra.

I've only once checked the fuel consumption on a return trip from Le Mans and it averaged around 18 mpg.

That seems very good compared to Rogers 13mpg. I am hoping to attend the Leman Classic next year with my father and I think that we should be Ok without the spare wheel, I will be very pleased with any figure over 10mpg out of my new engine which would give us a range of over 400 miles.

It's the right side of 15, I don't let it run dry before I look for fuel. Not sure how that would work...
Anyway, it's true to period - roughly 15 mpg is pretty accurate. If only I could get 5-star...

I've been told only to use 97 Ron or above. I presume that is equivalent to 5 star! P.S. In my previous post I meant the Lemans Classic 2018, not next year...

Don't get me started. Used to stick 4 gallons of 3-star in my Morris Traveller for a quid...

Things don't change much, I'm using a stick to tell me how much fuel I've got in my tank!!!

I really doubt that you need to use Super Unleaded, unless you're running a really high compression ratio.

Cobra, Mini, MC and Mustang never get anything except Shell Nitro plus v max whatever they call it now. Partly because my rolling road guy always tells me to use it, but mostly because there's a good chance it contains less of the demon ethanol.
If I put standard unleaded in the Mustang (such as in Sicily, where there is nothing else available, or get caught short over here) it pinks like perky.
