Indeed a strong price for a Rover engined hawk. This was for sale just a few weeks ago at considerably less!

If the RV8 has north of 300 HP or even more it's a very expensive engine. Much more than a Ford or Chevy with equal power.

It appears very neat and tidy for 18,000 miles. A credit to the builder/ driver.
I note they have gone to the trouble of having outboard rear discs.
Ref the engine if they are suggesting that the Rover engine has been bored out to 4.7 they why not just say it.
It’s confusing to suggest it’s a 289 and then state Rover 4.6.
Most Rover engine tuners will sell what they class as a 4.8 unit and is actually around 4748.
I was advised against the Merlin heads as being OTT e.g. good for the track but not so good for the road. Valve sizes are bigger than the big valve TVR heads. What the affect the valves have due to being re positioned I don’t know so it would be nice to get some comments first hand from an owner.
My recent head modifications stayed with the standard 4.6 casting but is now JE Eng Sport spec (circa stage 3). A small amount of uneven idle but still with plenty of low down pull.
64k question is will someone buy at that price?

Hi CobStang,
Yes, I had to have the jets and rods adjusted due to more air going through. Made a noticeable difference.
To clarify it’s a 4.6 Rover with RC87 cam which I think is similar to a Piper 270. Intended to give good torque not max power.
It was recorded at 274.5 BHP with a seemingly a large amount of allowance for drag in the transmission. I looked up the spec of the rolling road ( MSR 500) which appears quite impressive.
Happy to recommend J E Engineering. No hard sell, in fact the opposite. During discussions on what I wanted/ needed I suggested going to full TVR big valve spec but they stated it would give a distinctly uneven idle and not worth the extra cost of changing the valve seats circa +£400. Again if you want outright power for track use then bigger is better but as always you don’t get something for nothing. Good top end and poor at low revs.
