Hawk 289 Wanted
Re: Hawk 289 Wanted
Maybe once the bank balance has recovered abit
Re: Hawk 289 Wanted
So does the chassis number appear correctly on the V5.
If so then you are in the clear having established it’s recorded as an MG Hawk.

It's a lovely looking motor, I'm sure you'll love it.

It would be nice to welcome you as a member of The 289 Register. 200+ members to get advice from and a magazine four times a year plus events.
If you do that then perhaps send in a photo of the chassis number and V5 to registrar@the289register.com and then I can validate the entry that is already in the system.

I managed to get the day off work and collect the car from Mathewsons between the rain showers today, the film crew where there but I wasn’t filmed, I’ve read the history file, the car was ordered on the 13-03-93 on what was my 25th birthday, the car was mot’d on the 01-08-97, there’s 3 mot certificates with it up to 1100 miles then nothing it’s only done about 50 miles since, looking at the original chassis number it was the 23 car build, when did SVA officially start was it around 1998 ?
Re: Hawk 289 Wanted
SVA rules started Jan 1st 1998. There were interim rules which allowed you contravene certain protrusion rules providing you took delivery and started building before that date. It was a halfway house so to speak. Safety issues applied like seat belts and their mountings, rear view mirror, dual brake circuits.
Mine went through SVA but didn’t have to comply with the wheel spinners, fuel filler or dashboard switches. However I did have to get it tested before Jan 1st 2000. Basically the rules tightened from that date and have continued to evolve.

Re: Hawk 289 Wanted
I was the second highest bidder on this car auctioned at Mathewsons a couple of months back.
It would have been my plan to convert it to wires and keep it.
I have to say I’m a bit disappointed to see it now up for sale at THT for £49,995 so soon after it sold.

Re: Hawk 289 Wanted
I’m a bit confused.
Did you actually take possession Mark or did THT make to an offer you couldn’t refuse.
It will be interesting to see if it goes for that price bearing in mind it’s a 3.5 Rover on Twin SU’s.
I guess to tends to show people prefer to buy from an agent for the guarantee element.
