289 auction
Re: 289 auction
Looks like someone will be getting a bargain at under £30K.
I noted that its got some very good cylinder heads. Should make around 300 bhp on a 4.6.

A bargain I think. Should have been over £45.
Merlin cylinder heads are expensive and certainly do wonders for a Rover engine efficiency. I thought about them back in 2020 but couldn't see a way of keeping my Cobra rocker covers.
I think you also might need a special inlet manifold.

Someone lost a chunk of money on that and only did 11 miles!

Re: 289 auction
I'm guessing that auction is not the best way to sell these cars.
Cheers, Clive.

Re: 289 auction
It’s disappointing that they always seem to end up here at massively inflated prices.

Re: 289 auction
But a recognised dealer will offer the sort of back up a private seller could never offer. “Kit cars” are fine if the purchaser has technical ability and can repair/replace things themselves, but offering a warranty opens the market up to those who lack this ability by giving peace of mind. Of course you have to pay for that.
I know of a Hawk 289 owner who’s engine failed shortly after purchase. The car was collected, fitted with a rebuilt 289 engine and delivered back. First class service. But of course you pay for that.
I guess the old adage “you pays your money and you takes your choice” applies……

Fully appreciate the warranty status but even so that’s one hell of a leap in price.
