Do you think the Hilka pro craft spring compressor at screw fix will be squat enough to work ?

I've got a set of Draper expert very similar in design to those the Hilka ones and I couldn't get them in. The photo at screwfix shows a Spring that is much more open.

Hello people,
I'm gathering bits and pieces for my ace and am going to fit SU HS 4 carbs. Would any set work, a pair from an mgb for example. I presume they will need new needles
I'd be glad for any advice, thanks.
Ian.

I think you might be in luck that the MG and Triumph 2.5l 6 both use HS6's.
If in doubt speak to an SU specialist and see what they advise. SU have a phone number an I think they still manufacture the carbs out of Salisbury.

Upgraded from HS4’s to HS6’s on Dad’s 2.5, but that is in an AC Greyhound.

Date not set in stone but 17months until my kit arrives....
Bought an old mgb and not sure what to do with it. I will use the v5 which will leave me with an unregistered car. As I am using a triumph engine/gearbox, and I have already prepped the front suspension from another car there’s not much I need mechanically from the donor. Would it be better so try and sell the complete car or take the few remaining parts off it and scrap the rest. I don’t have a workshop or much space, I will rent a garage when the kit arrives.

Are wire wheels/hubs much heavier than bolt on alloys. Wire wheels look nice but it’s the unstrung weight I’m thinking of.

Any thoughts would be welcome
Thanks.
