Weight

Post by Migge »

When I finished my car build I wanted to know the weight. With approx. 30 ltr. of fuel it was 1.020 kg. So it's a bit under a ton or a bit under 2.200 lbs.

I guess it's all the aluminium panels under thaé car, inside the wheel arches, cockpit, engine bay an boot.

Any other weights of your cars please!

Under 950 kg aka 2.900 lbs.

Or under 900 kg aka 1.980 lbs.

Or even less?

fully trimmed (no roof or tonneau) with tools in boot and 2 gallons of fuel, 2 litres water, at IVA, minus my chubby body...
oh, and it was raining, a bit of road muck.

Clive, I think SVA was the same as IVA as regards to full fuel tank at test.
So my guess is you had a full tank.

From memory I'm sure the weighbridge gave me 1060kg which included the spare wheel, jack and tool kit plus a full tank of fuel. circa 47 litres.
At SVA the inspector raised my weight to 1200 because I hadn't added in the two x 75kg passengers required on the paperwork for the design weight.
So his scales must have read 1050.
Hawk FIA trimmed sufficiently for the test.
Rover Engine and gearbox
Hawk front suspension
Jag rear
Bulkhead Ali covered.
If you can get below the tonne then that would be good going. The Hawk body shell is quite a heavy layup.

I have some statements in the German forum, that a RAM with a RV8 or a LS1 is a bit over 900 kg!!

The Ram chassis is lightweight tubular space frame and the body work a lot thinner than a Hawk. The Hawk body is all but a monocoque in its own right.
When mine was delivered we off loaded it by one person on each wing and just lifted it across from trailer to axle stands. I was expecting to off load the body separately but the chassis just came with it.
From memory the two main chassis tubes are 3.5” x 1/8” wall plus the cross bracing and suspension brackets in substantial thickness.
It would be interesting to compare with other makes with ladder chassis.
