Garage Contents/Build Insurance

Post by Chris Pendry »

Having collected my 289 kit this week (you all remember that day 😀 - well worth the 18 month wait!) i would like to ask if anyone can advise on a type insurance that would suit my needs

I rent space in part of a large detached barn that belongs to a friend where I can fit up to 6 cars in.Over the years it’s turned into my ‘man cave’ ideal for those all important escapes
I have now realised I need to get this liability covered especially with the arrival of the kit
The Barn obviously has its buildings cover as part of their farm and is secure and alarmed but I understand that maybe a simple contents cover for me may not be suitable especially as I don’t own the barn
My area now consists of many tools workbenches etc...a couple of long term restoration projects..many many accumulated spares and now of course the growing value of the parts stored and needed for the 289 build
I’ve suddenly realised this all adds up to a considerable amount !

Any advice on a garage/workshop policy and/or a policy for the build would be useful

Thanks

I used Backford & Bloor for build up cover, up to about 35k I think.

I've had a policy with Hagerty since day dot , zero mileage policy to start on chassis number which covered the build and then added mileage and reg at a later date.
Also current build is with Heritage, same kind of deal.
Most of the better companies will do it.
