When I drilled for my side screen brackets I did encounter the glass despite the very careful measuring and expecting to miss it.
I think the drill probably just brushed the edge. So yes be very very careful as well as using short screws.

Hi Tony,
The brackets on original cars are chrome-plated steel, fixed with 4BA screws into the brass screen frame. From memory, the holes should be present already, but that probably depends on whether or not the screen frame is to original spec. Always assume there is glass there.
Definitive information on the dashboard is not going to be one post on a forum thread, I'm afraid. It depends to some extent on what you are aiming for - for a leafspring rack/pinion road car, dash panels are aluminium, with a specific instrument set and layout. Be aware that no current repro instruments are really anywhere close, apart from colour and size. Speedo and tach are cable drive.
The dash covering for factory cars was black leather, no padding except on glove box lid. The leather is an unusual grain, as AC would not deal with Connolly, so a different supplier was used. This leather is quite a coarse grain pattern and is quite shiny compared with modern trim leathers.

It is glued straight on to the aluminium dash. The same leather forms the door pockets, the cover trim on the dash-to-tunnel braces and the main chassis tubes in front of the doors, the rear inner wheelarches and the edging to the carpets - but there are very few edge bindings to the carpets as most is glued directly to the panel it sits on. The tunnel should have no binding on it at all, for example.

Many thanks Roger any dash photos will help. My dashboard is steel but I think I have the tacho and Speedo in wrong place. Am going to reposition before covering.

Are the holes not 2BA? (3/6") 4BA is 1/8"
Cheers, Clive.

Sorry, yes, 2BA raised-head countersunk slotted screws, chrome plate on brass. Shouldn't be any Pozidriv or Phillips screws anywhere on a Cobra, except for the four Ford screws retaining the gearlever gaiter ring. All 'small' screw sizes are BA.

Roger,

Spent days racking my brain on were I'd seen those pointy rubber bung thingies before. Can't be sure of the size comparison but I think RS Components sell them, called "pull mount bumper". £4 for packet of 40. RS stock No. 455425.

Keep well

Well, I’m quite pleased with the way it went. Nice and taut, no creases in the rear window, good fit around the sidescreens.

Here's an original spec hood:
