Dave, Just looked again at your original picture of the IRS.
If you have Gerry's FIA wheels like me, you'll probably have to shorten the original wheel studs that now bolt on the adaptors.

Hi Kev.

I have a slab side with wire wheels so I don't believe it to be a problem. Thanks for the warning though :)

Easy enough to check with a few blobs of plasticene.

I'll assume you have the same wheel offset as mine from MWS and Ed would have used the same bolt length and in that case you'll have sufficient clearance.

I know Stu. Thanks.

Gerry and I had a long discussion re the shaft mods, studs, wires vs alloys etc.

Thanks again.

If those wheels are made by Trigo/Vintage (I believe Vintage wheels are made by Trigo anyway), its best to check the engagement of the pin drives and the mounting back face. The machining tolerances are not that great.

I'm using 1/2" UNF capheads on Simon hubs as pin drives, which are the same diameter as the standard drive pins. However. most have needed mounting in the pillar drill and have a thou shaved off to ensure proper engagement. Everything is fine when finger tight, but once the pin drives are torqued up, and prior to skimming, there is a measurable gap (using feeler gauges) between back of the wheel and the adaptor.

Seen this reported on other threads, and would explain why some people have had pin drives working loose.

So the tear down at the back has gone really well, up to the point of splitting the prop shaft flange from the diff. All bolts are out but the two mating faces don’t want to part company. Any tip tips for separating the two without damaging either?

I’d soaked with some PlusGas and will continue with that today.

Dave.

Are the wheels still on? If so, try putting the car in first or reverse and try gently rotating the wheels.
Cheers, Clive.

(If I'm not here I'm in my workshop or on the golf course!)

Now there’s some great lateral thinking, quite literally.

I’ll try that when I’m back at the house.

Cheers Clive.
