Wanted: FIA or Halibrand Centrelock Wheels for MGB Splined Hubs

Post by Kevbuts »

Hi All,

I would like to replaced the chrome wire wheels on my 289 cobra with a set of FIA 289, Halibrand or similar alloy type centre locking wheels. My car is a Mk1 BRA 289 running MGB splined centre lock type hubs, so the wheels would need to fit these hubs.

Does anyone have a set they're interested in selling? If so I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Many thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kev. One difficulty you will have buying a ‘set’ of FiA Halibrands is that the rear pair are wider. You would need to get 4 ‘front’ wheels to fit a ‘Street’ Cobra.
It’s a good look though, especially the ‘Kidneybean’, which is appropriate for an early racing 260/289!

You can use every wheel you want as long as you fit spline drive adapters to them. Don't waste your time surching wheels that will fit. There is such no market for those wheels. Decide what wheels you want, buy adapters and mount them to the wheels. That's it.

Here is your alternative Kevin.

Adapters for your MGB hubs to bolt on Jag or Chevy pattern wheels:

And here is your chance to get a very rare wheel set:

I have a set of Halibrand wheels with splined inserts that I'm looking to sell if you are still interested. Fronts are 6.5 x 15 currently with a set of 215/60/R15's that look great in the front arches. Rears are 8.5 x 15 (edit - see below).

PM me if still looking.

Hi Dave, are the rears definitely 9.5”. I thought 6.5” fronts were normally paired with 8.5” rear. E,g on my car they are.
The size mark is normally cast on.
I am in the market for another front but I would expect you will only sell yours as a set.

I’ll look for a casting mark. Where is it normally set?
I’d rather they sold as a set as two splined rears are little use to me.
Dave.

Hi Dave,
Wheel size on mine is a slightly raised rectangle on the outside ( face) of the wheel in line with a gap between spokes and almost opposite the valve stem.
The size is then raised digits 15 x 6.5 within the rectangle.
Fully understand the need to sell as a set.
